Positive/Negative Consequences
Steps to Introducing Classroom Tally:
- Explain how to earn a point (tally).
- Explain how to lose a point (tally).
- Explain how the reward can be used.
Steps to Introducing Negative Consequences:
- Explain each consequence.
- Explain why we have consequences.
- Go over classroom expectations again.
Steps to Introducing Brag Tags:
- Explain what brag tags are to students.
- Explain how students earn them.
- Explain expectations when wearing brag tags.
It is important to have negative consequence systems and positive reward systems in place for students on the very first day of school. Positive rewards motivate students while negative consequences reinforce classroom expectations.
I decided on Classroom Tally because it helps students work as a team to achieve an end goal (the “free choice” time). They stay motivated and ready to learn. The take away tally lets students know they need to review the expectations and get into check. The gaining a tally allows students to recognize they are doing well and to keep on doing what they have been doing.
I decided on Brag Tags because it motivates students to do well and encourages positive behavior. Having students be able to wear the brag tags allows for pride in their work. Students will work hard everyday because of the reward of a brag tag.
I decided on Steps taken when breaking a rule because students need to know if they do not follow expectations and rules there are repercussions. The punishment fits the crime.
